Interview: Joe Hill, Estée Lauder

We visited Joe Hill, Beauty Advisor from Estée Lauder one afternoon to talk about the brand. Half an hour later, we left fresh-faced from what Estée Lauder calls a ‘Power Nap Facial’ — a five step treatment that’s available, for free, at all Estée Lauder counters.

Joe has been working at Estée Lauder for almost a year now; like many employees of the company, he’s a daily user of its products, which includes the brand’s acclaimed skin care line as well as fragrances and makeup.

“I love that it’s a brand that focuses on all areas of beauty,” he says.

Estée Lauder, Joe tells us, is a pioneer brand. Formed in 1946 by Estée Lauder and her husband Joseph, the company is one of the first luxury brands in skin care. Its first counter, located at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, stocked only four skin care products. And while Estée Lauder has grown, with counters all over the world, their heritage of skin care remains at the heart of the brand.

Joe tells us about Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Serum.

“It’s iconic,” he says. “It’s a night serum because night is when your skin is in its optimal recovery state. When your skin cells are renewing, that’s when the serum is going to do its work.”

We ask Joe what his favourite Estée Lauder product is.

“Double Wear!” he replies, without taking a moment to think. “Have you heard of Double Wear? We do fifty-five shades.”

“The Pure Colour Envy lipsticks are amazing as well,” he says. “There are so many different finishes and shades in the lipstick range.”

And his favourite part of the job?

“Every single day is different because we have different people from different walks of life coming through the door,” he replies. “Estée Lauder is for everyone — which is amazing.”

Estée Lauder is available in Boots, Trinity Leeds. Opening times and store information can be found here.
